What I really see from my art are the whisperings of ordinary life that could be past by without a second glance. I am amazed at the many times I walk by something and then take a second glance at the unexpected beauty of it. This experience is what inspires me to create something. A bouquet of flowers is of course gorgeous. However, the most inspiring to me is the one flower, the one stalk (or even the one, innocent spider that is hiding from certain demise!).
As many artists state, I always knew I wanted to be an artist. My mother always said I drew spiders at a young age. I drew them everywhere, just squiggles with a bunch of lines coming out. Oh, and of course I didn’t want to be just a regular artist. I wanted to be a starving artist.
I work loosely with watercolor, although I have a passion for realistic drawings. When working on portraits, informal close-up poses are the most intriguing to me. I feel that it shows the person’s spirit – typically not found in a formal pose. I enjoy working on children’s portraits, especially. Their innocence amazes me and I try to somehow capture that in their gaze.
